Baby Rag Quilt Class

Location: Glendale

Need a soft fuzzy quilt? Or a quick baby gift? Learn how to make a simple RAG Quilt. It's a great starter quilt too. Rag quilts can be made using denim, flannel, cotton or homespun fabrics. Most use 3 layers of fabric and batting. I love to make mug rugs using this technique also.

Class Supplies & Pre Class Prep

  • We will be using 8 1/2 inch squares of fabric for each block.
  • Please precut all squares of fabric at 8 1/2 inches and 7 1/2 inch squares of batting.
  • There is no binding or borders on this quilt. You can add one later, but we won't get that far.
  • I'll explain in class. See size chart  at the bottom of this page for number of blocks.

Fabric... See the size chart for fabric requirements at the bottom.

You can use flannel, denim, cotton or homespun, or a combination of these. DO NOT PREWASH ANY OF YOUR FABRIC. Batting, if you are using batting, buy the same amount as the fabric for front of your quilt. If using denim, batting is not required, I suggest using a layer of flannel instead, or nothing. Thread to match

Please bring the following with you to class along with your fabric.  Items are available for purchase at Mulqueen's.
  • Sewing Machine and power cord
  • A Walking Foot for your machine is suggested.
  • Size 14/90 needles.
  • Spring Loaded Rag Quilt Snips or other sharp small scissors
I used 3 different fabrics (1yd each) for my small quilt 45X60 and I cut 16 blocks from each fabric for the front of my quilt. So 48 squares. You will also need the same amount of squares for the back of the quilt. I bought 3 yards. You will get about 20 blocks from each yard of fabric if you cut carefully. Be sure to cut off all selvages completely. DO NOT PREWASH ANY OF YOUR FABRIC!
