Upcycling Workshop with Cooper Killian - Sewing a Sustainable Denim Tote Bag out of Old Garments! - Mesa Event Center

In this hands-on workshop, you'll learn how to transform an old pair of jeans into a stylish, fully lined shoulder tote bag while exploring the fundamentals of sewing, garment construction, and sustainable fashion. Whether you've never touched a sewing machine before or already have some experience, this class is designed to guide you through each step of the process in a welcoming, beginner-friendly environment.

Students are encouraged to bring a pair of denim jeans they no longer wear, as well as a lining of choice from home (Home-sewn Quilt, Old fabric that's been sitting, or to choose from Mulqueen's vast selection of fabric choices), giving new life to a garment that would otherwise sit unused or end up in a landfill. Throughout the workshop, you'll learn how to identify usable sections of denim, prepare your fabric, cut pattern pieces, and assemble a functional tote bag using professional sewing techniques.

Whether you're looking to learn a new hobby, make a meaningful handmade gift, reduce clothing waste, or simply create a unique accessory you can use every day, this workshop offers a fun, creative, and rewarding introduction to the world of fashion design and sewing.
